Lake Region Coffee News – August 4, 2022

Before Coffee this morning. Jerry Sammon, VP of the BOD, updated us on the following regarding the storms on Monday and Tuesday evenings:

  • ·        Duke was supposed to be out yesterday, hopefully they will be here today to restore electricity taken out by lightning on Sunday

  • ·        The pump on the pool was hit by lightning; we have a backup.  The pool should be up and running this morning

  • ·        There is no business internet in the clubhouse and various place around LRV.  We pay for one-hour service from Spectrum and so far, they have not responded.  They are expected to be here today.

  • ·        The office phones are out, the business server is fried, the workstations in the office are partially out.  A company called All Tech who services our computers and are our technical support. They were called on Monday am; they were here by 2:30 pm.  They have restored the equipment they are responsible for have been restored. Now we have to wait for Spectrum.

  • ·        There is a leak in the Clubhouse roof.  It has been turned in and a work order has been established

  • ·        The fire alarms were knocked out and they have been repaired.

  • ·        Fences that were blown down by the wind are in the process of being put back up.

  • ·        A problem with the sewer system being overrun by the rain (this should never had happened) but people will be here today to figure out why this happened

PLEASE BE PATIENT!! WE ARE WORKING TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEMS.

Mary Anne Sammon was the MC today

Attendance – 83

Kim Eickelschulte, New Residents:  There were no new residents for Kim to introduce this morning

Visitors: Patricia DeSantis introduced her brother, Charles Cowell

Shari Haines, Serendipity: Today we have to thank Patricia DeSantis and Charles Cowell for our pastries in loving honor of their mother, Irene Cowell.  And when someone pays for the donuts and muffins, the Social Club furnishes the coffee and tea.

First, I want to thank Barb Norsen for pitch hitting for me the last two Thursdays.  Bruce and I had a wonderful time in Illinois.  It was a great time.  Our whole family and a couple of significant others (16 total) got to spend 5 days in this beautiful lake home. There was only one little problem – there were only 2 bathrooms.

I received the following note from Dottie Minnich, Peacock. “Please thank for me all of the folks who called and sent cards to wish me well after my shoulder reverse operation on my right arm.  Now my arms match and I am bionic woman.  I am doing well and Bob has become a very great cook!”

Bonnie Fry, snowbird on Sycamore, has broken her arm.  She and Cliff are at the northern home in Michigan

A little good news this morning – Mike and Beth Mikolayek (Peacock) Florida daughter, Alexa Smith, will be in the production of “Sound of Music” at the Doctor Phillips Center in Orlando on August 14 & 15.  She has the part of the lead nun (Mother Superior).

I am sorry to report the death of Irene Cowell, 345 Badger, last Thursday.  Irene was 89 years old.  No services are being planned at this time.  She is survived by her daughter, Pat DeSantis and a son, Chick.

I am sorry to report the sudden death of Patty Chodzinski, 354 Badger, during a routine CT scan on Friday.  Patty was 77 years old.  She and Dan were full time residents here at LRV; originally from Mishawaka, Indiana.  Patty is survived by her husband, Dan; a daughter, Kelly who also resides here in LRV at 202 Orchid and a son, Chris.  She has three grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  Services for Patty will be held in Indiana.

Also, Charlene Shook, Pine, died Monday, at a local nursing home.  Charlene was originally from Ohio.  She is survived by her husband, Harvey.  I do not have any further information at this time.

Announcements

Mary Anne Sammon:  There will be a “Meet & Greet” next Tuesday, August 9. at 7 pm. Everyone (new resident) who has been here for a year or less are welcome.  This has not been held recently because of COVID. Hope to see you there.

Also, the coupons in your Tuesday’s ads that come in the mail from Proctor and Gamble are used by Betty Holmes (Sycamore), to purchase items for needy. Please save them for Betty.  They can be dropped off at her home at 469 Sycamore or give them to Mary Anne and she will get them to her.

Shirley Moore, Red Hatters:  Red Hatters will be going to lunch at Cherry Pockets on Monday, August 22.  The signup sheet will be on the Bulletin Board in the west hall.

Mike Mikolayek, Director of Social Club:  First of all, if you bring something in to the Clubhouse, we would like to know so that they can be properly stored.

Also, paint for driveways is now available through our LRV account at Sherwin Williams.  Concrete stain and it is $29.00 a gallon; make sure you use oil-based paint and prepare your driveway (power wash, let it dry and apply 2 coats).  For more information contact Mike.  Standards colors are fine, but any other color needs to be OKed by the office.

Phoenix Painting, Alex Lopez, will be refinishing the stage in the near future.  It will be sanded and two coats of polyurethane. He will paint a single wide for $1100 and approx. $1500 for a double wide.  All the information is available in the Sales Office.

The old bread place next to the Haines City Police Department is called “Bricks of America”.  We are going to have a representative at our Social Committee Meeting in the fall from there.  They have a paver (3’ x 6”) made of solid porcelain that you can put directly over your existing driveway.  We are planning to have speakers at our Social Committee Meeting in the fall to hopefully get more people to attend these meetings. (i.e., a trust expert, representative from the Florida State Trooper).

Patsy Zumwalt, 5 @ 5 guys:  5 @ 5 guys will be serving hot dogs (all beef), potato salad, baked beans and water at the Hammock this Friday at 5 pm for $5.  See you all there.

Warren Law:  Warren thanked all the “Food Fairies” who donate food either to the blue barrel in the Clubhouse or drops it off in the bins by his front door.  Lake Wales Care Center came yesterday and pick up 174 pounds of food.  Last month they were very short and they had to spend $15,000 to supplement the food supply.  Every time you come to the Clubhouse, bring something to put in the blue bin. If you go the store and there is a BOGO, buy one for your home and get the other one to donate.

There is terrible need for breakfast food for children in our schools.  Marlene is working with the schools.  When she gets the name of the school and what is needed, they will let us know.

A shout out of “Thanks” goes to
