Lake Region Coffee News – February 10, 2022

Before Coffee this morning we were visited by Abraham Lincoln (Rick Otey, Dave Swearingen’s brother).  He gave a very meaningful presentation of President Lincoln reminding us of some of our very important American history that we sometimes don’t think about with our very busy lives.

Jayne Jones (our own Queen of Hearts) was the MC today

Attendance – 212

Kim Burch, New Residents: There were no new residents form Kim to introduce this morning.  Kim reported that she has pictures of residents representing 437 homes.  She is hoping to have the new directory available by the end of February.

Visitors:  Barb Swearingen introduced Dave’s brothers and their wives, Tom and Evelyn Swearingen from Iowa and Rick and Mary Otey from Tremont, IL; Jerry Henry introduced their friends, Dave and Dawn Schneider from Dover, PA; Lois Derrick introduced her friends Gladys Lake from Corbin, KY and Jane Garbin from Sweetwater, TN; and Dave Johnson introduced his brother, Harry from Deer River, MN.

Shari Haines, Serendipity: Today we thank Jayne Jones, Queen of Hearts to the Park and Denis and Barbara Albert in celebration of the 47th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day for our donuts and muffins.  And when someone pays for the pastries, the Social Club pays for the coffee and tea.

This week at LRV has been filled with music.  The weather outside may have been dreary and wet, but here inside this Clubhouse it was “rockin and rollin”.  Saturday night the Canadians sponsored Canada Night with a live band and then on Tuesday night the Dance Committee gave everyone a “free show” of magic and outstanding music.  If you missed either of these events, you missed a good time and some really good music.

I have received information regarding two former residents:  First, I was informed of the death of Helen Hadden on January 28 in Ontario Canada.  Helen and Donald were former residents at 207 Orchid.  She was 84 years old.  She is survived by 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring  I have the address of her daughter, Ann Gordon, 1371 Brock Concession 1, Sunderland, ON Loc 1H0.

I also received word of the death of Leo Campagna on February 3 at his home in Vermont.   He and his wife Theresa lived at 102 Mustang for about 20 years.  Leo was 91 years old.  He is survived by his wife Theresa, 3 sons, 3 grandsons and 3 great grandchildren.

You have probably noticed that the flag inside of LRV have been flying at half-staff.  They are in honor of Jim Prowant.  Jim passed on February 8 in Danville, PA.  He is a snowbird resident at 555 Peacock.  He and his daughter were here recently.  Jim was 94 years old.  He has owned here in LRV for 28 years when Peacock was just a dirt road.  He is survived by his daughter, Laurie and two sons, John and Charles; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.    Services for Jim will be held on February 18 in Mifflinburg, PA.  Cards and words of sympathy can be sent to Laurie Derr, 1515 Orchard Road, Box 17, Millmont, PA  17845

A moment of silence in remembrance of James Prowant followed by TAPS in honor of Jim’s service in the Army during World War II.

I understand that Whitey Allen, 321 Beaver Lane, is hospitalized back in Ohio.

Any health concerns that we should be aware of so we can include them in all our prayers and thoughts this week? Be sure to keep Whitey and the families of the deceased mentioned this morning in your thoughts and prayers

Thought for the week

There are two days of celebration this week.  First on the 12th we honor Abraham Lincoln and on the14th we honor those we love on Valentine’s Day.  So, in honor of both days, I have 2 thoughts for the week.  First from Abraham Lincoln:

You can fool some of the people all of the time,

and all of the people some of the time,

but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

Abraham Lincoln

Then from Charles Schulz these words of wisdom for Valentine’s Day:

All you need is love.

But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.

 Charles Schulz
