Visitors: Miriam Harcek introduced her friend, Sue Bates, from Michigan.

Shari Haines, Serendipity: Today we have to thank the Dan and Patty Chodzinski for our pastries this morning in celebration of the wedding anniversary which is today and Dan’s birthday on May 12th.  And when someone pays for the donuts and muffins, the Social Committee furnishes the coffee and tea.

The ambulance was in the Park on Monday afternoon.  Harry Garwood, 585 Aloha, fell outside and hurt his shoulder.  Harry is having shoulder surgery today at Heart of Florida

They were here again on Wednesday morning.  May Freeman, 285 Garden, fell and hit her head.  She was airlifted by helicopter to Lakeland and then on to Tampa.  I don’t have any further information at this time.  Be sure to include both of them in your thoughts and prayers.

My good news for today:  Jim and Jacqui Biddle, 144 Buckeye, have sold their home in Illinois and now will be full time LRV residents.

Bruce and I are heading to Illinois next Thursday for one week to get a little family time and, of course, spend a little time with our great grandson, Peyton.  Barb Norsen will be pitch hitting for me for the next two Thursdays.  If you have any health concerns for her to report and, also any happy stories you would like to share.

Announcements

Bev Pippin, Craft Club:  Bev reported on the Hatmakers in the Craft Club.  This is a community project as so many of the residents contribute yarn, finances, and help to distribute these hats.  Currently they have 10 hats left as they have sent many north. They have an interesting request.  We have gotten to be known around the world as Romania has found out of us through Bev’s daughter’s church.  They have a missionary in an orphanage in Romania and they are overflowing with refugees from the Ukraine. They would love to have some hats.  It is summer now and it takes a little time to make them.  They are requesting 200 or more hats and right now there are only 4 ladies here making hats.  They are hoping that the ladies up north are making hats and will bring them back in the fall.  The Craft Club’s biggest need is mailing them; it will be quite expensive to send them to Romania.  If you have yarn you would like to donate, it will be greatly appreciated.  They have set up a table in the back and if you would like to make a donation or suggest a place that needs hats, please do so in the basket.  The Craft Club really appreciated your support.

Shirley Moore, Red Hatters:  Shirley announced that the Red Hatters are alive and in LRV.  They will have their monthly meeting and they will be going to Flordino on May 16.  Before Norma Smith left LRV she passed on all her Red Hat paraphernalia.  She now has 20 -25 red hats at her house.  If you are interested in being a Red Hatter, there is not much you have to do, but go out to eat once a month.  They will be at 11:45 am on May l6 at the Clubhouse.  There is a signup sheet on the Bulletin Board in the west hall.

Kathy Caputo: Kathy brought us up to date on the 27 intersection our front.  She has our champion for this project.  Back in 2020 a new associate took over our request for change at this intersection.  A traffic study was done and they were proposing an offset intersection.  She has a pencil drawing of the proposal.  A public hearing was needed but never scheduled.  In March of 2021 he thought we had some hope and were looking at alternate contractors who can do the work.  In September Kathy was advised that the contractor who was going to do the work didn’t feel comfortable putting in the intersection because of his inability to pour asphalt and he didn’t want to affect the asphalt in the roadway.  He also mentioned that through Kathy’ effort they had found 7 other intersections that needed safety changes.  However, our intersection will not be included.  This is an unacceptable answer.  Kathy was able to attain a list of accident at the intersection (this includes Haines City, Lake Hamilton, Polk County and even State of Florida).  DOT never had a complete study.  With the help of Roger LeBel and the CAPS program she was able to get in contact with two people, Sgt Beset and Lt. Altair. Sgt Beset was able to pull all the accident reports, and in January Kathy got the complete report.  She sent Polk County all the accident reports and her “ace in the hole”.  Her “ace in the hole” was a document that Andrea Boyer, Sycamore, found in her mother’s papers (Norma Boldec).  This document was about this intersection from March of 1983.  Kathy sent all this information to them and highlighted the fact that it has taken the DOT 40 years to do anything about this intersection.  Not expecting a response, she got an email back apologizing for the length of time it has taken them to respond and thanked her for bringing it to the attention of the right people. She left a voice mail again after not further response (there had been 4 accidents in the intersection in March and around Easter).  The other day Kathy received a call that “OUR INTERSECTION HAS BEEN APPROVED” and a Public Hearing will be held sometime this year.  They will let us know when it will be held.  Kathy needs our help by showing up to this hearing to show our support.  She also asked that if you see a situation (like 3 or 4 cars in the intersection) and you have the ability and are not driving to take a picture with your cell phone, please do so only if your can do this SAFELY!  Pictures say a thousand words, but SAFETY first. It looks like we may be getting our intersection fixed in the future.

Glenn Edgin, Board of Directors: Good new – the Boat Yards are almost complete and he thanked everyone who has helped.  There are a few empty spots. In the North Lot (#236) there is a Utility trailer with a John Deere mover on it; the house number on it has been sold and has no idea who owns this trailer.  If you know who this trailer belongs to, see Glenn it needs to be moved.  Also, right beside it there is a lot with a small green trail star boat trailer with no house number on it.  If it is yours, please see Glenn.  The South Lot is pretty much complete. However, there is Class A motor home (Sightseer) in Lot #615 that needs to be moved.  It is has to be moved so that they can get everything lined up straight.

Next, Boat ramp – we had hope to have the concrete poured today.  But we could not get on the schedule so it will be next Thursday.  After it is poured, please do not put your tire tracks in it.  Please be patient.

The last item is the Pool.  Contemplating closing the Pool for the summer – we need help.  If you use the pool you need to sign up to closed the pool.  There is a signup sheet on the Bulletin Board in the west hall.  They will be taking some of the chairs and lounges and put them in storage for the summer.  The summer sun is hard on the fabric.  Make sure you get to the signup sheet for the pool closing and we can keep the pool open this summer.  Appreciate all the help you have given and have a good summer.

Thought for the week

It’s not what we have in life

But who we have in our lives that

MATTERS

And in honor of Sunday – Mother’s day

God could not be everywhere,

So, He created Mothers.
