While we are able, we should all help. It is what we do!!
Shari Haines, Quilt Club: All the Quilt Club Members in the audience, please stand. The first meeting to discuss forming a quilt club at Lake Region Village was held in January, 2012. Nancy Benz, Leah Richard, and Miriam Harcek decided it was something that would interest our residents and proceeded. This is the 10th anniversary of this club here at LRV. In 2022 we have approximately 50 members and growing all the time.
In December, 2014 we purchase our longarm machine and supplies for approximately $20,000. Through hard work and determination and kind donations from other clubs in the park, that debt was paid off in less than 15 months. The machine has allowed members to quilt or have their quilts quilted at a very minimal charge.
We have donated a quilt the last few years to the Vets & Friends that they raffled at their annual Veteran’s Dinner. This year’s winner was Lil Gurkowski. We have donated $1200 toward the PA system down at the Hammock as well as help fund the round tables at the Hammock. We have held the Annual 5K Walk in February and with your help we were able to donate a carload of nonperishable food and over $500 to House Blest Food Pantry in Haines City. This year we also collected food and donations for House Blest during the Christmas Season by asking you to bring in food to put under our Christmas Tree here in the Clubhouse. Your response was unbelievable. We also have made many charity quilts for the local police & fire departments and Polk County Deputy Sheriffs. This year we gave 50 small kid size quilts to Haines City Police Department and 105 to Polk County Sheriff Department. These quilts are put in the patrol cars so that we it is necessary to remove a child from their home, they give them a quilt.
Several members continue to participate in the Polk and Highlands Counties Linus Project by making and donating quilts that are given to children in the foster care system. This year’s donation to Linus is over 50 quilts. As well we have donated quilts in the past to Snowball Express sponsored by Gary Sinise. He brings thousands of children of fallen soldiers to Orlando every year for a week of fun and before they leave, they get to pick a quilt from the many that have been donated around the US as well as from our members. This event has not been held the last couple of year due to Covid
Today you see what we have accomplished this year. In October I taught a class entitled “Day Dream”. It was a quilt with 12 different blocks in shades of blue, green, and yellow. Well, you can see my students did not like the color parameters. Miriam Harcek started a class in January entitled “Scrappy Star”. This quilt was again a chance for our members to learn a new technique. In January Leah Richard taught a scrappy quilt that was made with various scraps (otherwise known as “Stash”). Also interspersed are various other quilts that our members have made since our last show was in March of 2020 before covid took over our lives. Covid gave our member the opportunity to stay home and be safe but also to be very prolific quilters.
Now for the part of this show you have all been waiting for. With Joan London’s help we will pull the names of the winners of this year’s quilt, table runners and table toppers. Thanks to all who purchased chances and “good luck” to all.
The winners are:
13 table runners – Diana Gerros

Thought for the week
Never regret a day in your life,
Good days give happiness
Bad days give experience
Worst days give lessons
And best days give memories.
Don’t forget to turn your clock ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday or you will be late for something on Sunday. Daylight savings time begins
Sorry this is late - my great grandson, Peyton took precedence over Coffee News this week!!!
