Lanny Hegadorn was the MC today

Attendance – 206

Kim Burch, New Residents: There were no new residents today.

Visitors:  Roberta May introduced her sister, Rose, from Michigan; Joanne Maag introduced her sister-in-law, Dawn from Ohio; and Bob Leicht introduced his niece, Denise, from Tennessee.

Shari Haines, Serendipity: Today we have to thank Russ and Char Isham in celebration of their 47th wedding anniversary on March 29th; and Sherm & Mildred Shartzer in honor of this “GREAT PARK”.  And, of course, when someone buys the donuts and muffins, the Social Club furnishes the coffee and tea.

I am happy and pleased to announce that Daniel Plummer, Peachtree, and Sarah Miller were united in holy matrimony on Friday, March 18th at 2 pm down at the Pateo.  Richard Horner officiated.  Judi & Duke Miller, the bride’s parents, gave their blessing as Duke walked Sarah down the aisle.  Many LRV residents were present to witness the ceremony.  The reception was in the Clubhouse following the ceremony.  CONGRATS TO DAN & SARAH.

Bev Wolford, Peachtree, was taken by ambulance on Sunday to the hospital.  She was scheduled for a pacemaker last Tuesday but I do not have any more information at this time.

Chris Wolford, Peachtree, was taken by ambulance to the hospital yesterday.

Dottie Minnich, Peacock, fell yesterday on her bad shoulder and hit her head. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital.  She is home now.

My feel-good story this morning came to me from Mike and Barbara Sadler.  Avery Pile, their granddaughter will graduate from high school in May of this year.  She applied for admission to the University of Kentucky (UK) and received the following reply in the mail. “Congratulation Avery Pile on your admission acceptance to the University of Kentucky and being selected to receive the “Academic Presidential Scholarship.”  That scholarship is $12,620 per year with a total 4-year value of $50,440. Needless to say, some very proud Grandparents!!

Announcements

Lanny announced there will be another HamJam this Friday at the Hammock from 3pm – 5pm.  There is no food being served this week.  So, bring your drinks and snacks and come down and enjoy the music.

Richard Horner:  Richard informed us he is collecting funds to help cover the cost of the new piano.   Sunday evening, March 27th, the Gospel Strings from Alabama will be here in the Clubhouse at 6 pm.  Church service this Sunday at 8 am will be featuring the Love of God.

Brenda Rollins, Secretary of the LRV Board of Directors:  We are getting close to going live with Spectrum.  Brenda gave us the number of Spectrum Bulk Services (833-697-7328).  After April this is the number you will call if you have any questions regarding your cable or internet service.  When you call that number and they do not have your address (mostly in the 500’s and 600’s), they just have not had time to put your info in.  Be patient and call again.  Some residents are able to call right now and be switch over to the new service and they will send you boxes and setting up appointments to come out and set up homes that have not had services before.  If you have been informed that they will charge you $32 to have this service, you should not be charged that; do not pay that day.  However, if want them to set up your boxes and your passwords, you may want to pay the $32.  The free service is technically only for getting the wires to your home.  Cloud DVR is through the internet only.  You will have to have a “smart” TV, Roku, or Fire Stick in order to utilize the Cloud DVR.  Post cards should be coming next week.  Brenda suggested that you will need to know your billing cycle.   Current customers may have to pay for part of April on existing services depending on your billing cycle as well as $55 to LRV.

Gary Rushford, Vets & Friends:  Vets and Friends thanked all for their support of the Vets & Friends this year.  This Sunday they will host an Ice Cream Social in the Card Room from 2pm – 4pm.   The cost will be $3.  Gary needs more Vets to help scoop ice cream; you need to bring your own scoop.

Bobbi Haddix/Jamie Moore, Social Club:  Bobbi introduced Jamie who is the table & chairperson (replacing Whitey Allen who did this job many years ago).  If you have a function that requires to have the table & chairs to be moved, please let Jamie know well in advance so that he can put it on the schedule and have crew to help.  His contact information is on the bulletin board in both the west hall and in the Card Room.  If you are willing to be part of the Table & Chair Committee, there is a signup sheet on the bulletin board or you can contact Jamie.  We need extra hands.  Many activities here in the Clubhouse require for these tables and chairs to be moved.  Please consider helping Jamie with this.  Jamie thanked everyone who has helped setting up especially on Wednesdays.  Events are already scheduled for April; more advance notice will be greatly appreciated.

Barb Norsen, Newsletter & Potluck:  Next week she will need help distributing the April Newsletter.  Please help by delivering the Newsletter on your street.  Also, don’t forget to sign up for Potluck, Tuesday, April 5th.

Michael Jorgensen, Director of Village Choir:  Michael and Bonnie will present a concert on Sunday, April 3 at 7 pm. Called “I Love a Piano”.  Also, if you missed the Bandoliers or the Village Choir Concerts, they are available on UTube. There is a Lake Region Village site and all you need to do is search Lake Region Village Bandoliers or Village Choir and they should come up so you can watch it.

Norma Smith, Red Hatters:  The Red Hatters will have their final luncheon on April 11.  We will be leaving out front at 11:30. Everyone should meet out front to go to Southern Dunes.

Betty Akerman, Community Garden:  The Community Garden is going pretty well.  A few of the tomato plants took a turn because of all the rain we had, but they are perking up.  Yesterday we planted peppers and cucumbers; next week we are going to plant potatoes.  Betty needs old totes (any condition); bring them down to the empty “chicken coup”.  Also looking for a plastic cabinet with shelves with doors and drawers to store supplies.  Monday morning (around 9:30 am) they will need help from some “strong persons” to help lift the bags of soil.

Chuck Holtz, Pateo Group:  Chuck reminded us there will be a “Senior Prom, Do Over” on Saturday, March 26, from 7 – 10 pm. 14 Tickets are still available.  A basket is being raffled off and tickets are being sold.  You do not need to be present to win.  Door prizes also will be awarded.  You can come in at 4:30 to set your table.

Bill Taylor, St Patrick’s Day Picnic:  Bill thanked everyone who participated in the Golf Cart Parade.  It was a wonderful event.  Winners were:

First Place – Jeff Marzolf

Second Place – Phil & Carol Hutchinson

Third Place – Linda Harness, Wanda Murphy, Judy Whitaker and Sue Branscum

Also, thanks to Cliff Fry and Dennis Besser for decorating the boat and Wayne Hamlin for driving it.  Also, thanks to the Maintenance Men for all their help in cleaning up and preparing the Hammock.  There were their several days as well as putting it all away on Monday.

Tom Pomroy:  Tom has a great idea for April 3.  Start your day going to Church, go out for breakfast, then go to the Calvary Baptist Church on Overlook Drive for the Winter Haven Barbershop Quartet’s 12th Annual Show will be Sunday 3 pm; and then attend the evening of music here in the Clubhouse at 7 pm.  That is what Sunday is for.  Tom has tickets for the Barbershop Quartet Show.

Bruce Haines, Dance Committee:  Bruce announced that the Dance Committee will have a Dance this year in April.  It will be Saturday, April 16 from 7-10 pm here in the Clubhouse.  Tickets are $5 and will be available at Coffee on April 7 & 14 and at the door.  Music will be provided by the “Groove Girls:

Steve Taylor, Garden Club:  The Garden Club and “kudos” to the Board for the new trees and landscaping on the large island down Sunshine at Hawkeye.  They also put two trees by the bench overlooking the lake.  They are looking really good.

Rick Maag, Bingo Committee:  Rick announced Bingo will be today at 1 pm and 6:30 pm.  Next week will be the last Bingo at 630 pm.  Afternoon Bingo will continue.

Rick thanked everyone for attending the St Patrick’s Day Picnic.  It was a wonderful day. He expressed his appreciation for all those who showed up and helped that day.  He really appreciated all the hard work goes into that day.  Rick thanked the BOD for allowing the Maintenance men to help clean up the area.  It really saved them a lot of work. He recognized the Chair people:  Jim Biddle, Judy Worden, Brenda Rollins, Al Granato. Glenn Harris, Marilyn Rhodes, Bruce Kelsey, Tony Macaluso, Kathy Taylor, Joan London, Shari Haines, Bruce Haines, Sherm Shartzer, Jim Blinco, Dave Bland, Steve Hill, Chuck Holtz, George Worden, Bill Taylor, Vicki Hamlin, Miriam Harcek, and Bob Stapleton.  All the volunteers deserve a round of applause.  Thank you, thank you.  After Coffee this morning Rick would like to meet with those committee chairmen to critic the picnic to see how we can do better next year.

Steve Mark, Board of Directors:  Steve thanked the Boat Club for bring back to Park to some kind of “normalcy” after many months of COVID restrictions.  Steve addressed the water problem in the front of the park from heavy rains.  As a result, some pavements things have been installed on Mustang, Keystone and Prairie to help divert the water to the drains in front of the Maintenance Building to stop the water accumulating on Sunshine.  These are not permanent fixtures.

Everyone coming into the Park has to sign a paper stating that they have read the rule book. Everyone needs to abide by these rules – one of those rules is keeping your house clean.  These are situations that need to be maintained – check your gutters for weeks and leaves; put away objects outside that can be projectiles in a hurricane; wash your home (hopefully at least twice a year).  If you do not comply, it will be turned over to the Rules Committee and there could be a fine.  We try to be fair to everyone.

A shout out of “Thanks” goes to

          Piano: Margie Hoye
