Lake Region Coffee News – February 24, 2022

Jayne Jones was the MC today

Attendance – 197

Kim Burch, New Residents: There were no new residents for Kim to introduce this morning.  Kim needs to know if you were not photographed for the directory and want a book.  Also, if any of your neighbors who were not photographed want a book.  Right now, we are only printing a few more than those photographed.

       Visitors:  No visitors today.

Shari Haines, Serendipity: Today we had to pay for our own pastries and coffee. Busy week here at LRV.  The 5 @ 5 guys served ham and cheese sliders for a full house.  The Vets & Friends had an impressive flag burning ceremony at the Fire Pit followed by hamburger luncheon at the Hammock.   Jim and Mandy were here in the evening for a belated Valentine’s Dance.  The dance floor was full all evening. The Quilt Club had their annual 5K walk.  61 residents participated.  Barry Allan and Heather Smith came in first in just 39 minutes and 36 seconds.  Joannie Sifford at 92 did the complete 5K in 1 hour and 4 minutes.  We collected 7 baskets of nonperishable food and over $500 for House Blest in Haines City.  We elected a new Board of Directors Tuesday afternoon.  Congrats to the winners.  And then last night the Pateo Group and the Community Garden Club combined efforts and served over 200 of us a very large taco salad known as the Haystack Dinner.

I had one person this week give me a happy story to pass on to you.  Jackie Lott, 51 Prairie Terrace, gave me a local newspaper article from Gratiot County, MI. about her husband, Howard.  Howard designed and built foldable desks for children at the Hillside Elementary School.  These desks allowed grade schoolers not too far from their home to effortlessly close up the desk and slide it under the bed.  He made 18 of these desks so that the homebound kids had a place to study during the pandemic.

I have no reports on health concerns.  Stay well everyone!!

Before I do birthdays, I want to remind you the Quilt Club continues to sell raffle tickets for the large quilt, 13 table runners or 13 table toppers. Tickets are 6 for $5 and winners will be announced on March 10.

Glenn Edgin, Board of Directors:  Glenn thanked Richard Horner for the “Prayer of Dedication”.  He does what everyone’s help.  Keeping this park running we need volunteers.  One area he would like help with is at the pool.  We have rules for those who use the pool – no eating or drinking in the pool area.  If you have food and such you need to keep it back in the designated area.  Make sure that your family and visitors know the rules; if you see someone drinking/eating in the pool, please mention it to them.  There is a lot of talent here in the park.  If anyone here has the expertise, willingness, or desire to help fix some of the pool chairs.  We have the material.  Please see Glenn if you can help with this.

Brenda Rollins, Board of Directors:  Brenda has a list for those who are invested in the streaming channels and the website you go to.  They will be available at the office.  It is time to start calling all those who have not responded.  There are only 145.  If you would like to help with this on Friday, she will be in the office all day.  If you are “tech savvy” and want to help others to set up their services once we are up and running, she has a list you can sign up on.
