Michael Jorgenson was the MC today

Attendance – 243

Kim Eickelschulte, New Residents:  Kim introduced new snowbird resident, Linda Lang, 615 Oak Trail, from Lakeland, FL

Visitors: No visitors today

Shari Haines, Serendipity:  Today we can thank Richard & Judie Shaw & Virgil & LaDonna Kohler in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversaries.  The Shaw’s was on November 10 and the Kohler’s on December 29 for our donuts and muffins.  They furnished these today even though they are still up north.  And when someone pays for our pastries, the Social Club furnishes the coffee and tea.

This week has really gotten me in the Christmas spirit.  Sunday evening the Village Choir performed for us with wonderful holiday music featuring some the talents of several residents

How many of you were here on Tuesday evening for the Big Show.  It was awesome and if you missed it, you really missed a fabulous one!  The Entertainment Revue – young ladies age 6 to 18 from Tampa performed music from the movies; a salute to the Veterans and closed with fantastic Christmas music.

Then yesterday over 120 ladies enjoyed lunch served by some of the men here in the park followed by a rousing grab bag gift exchange where some of gifts got exchanged several times.

Just a reminder – today is the last day for your donations of nonperishable food for House Blest in Haines City.  We will be delivering the food this afternoon just in time for their Christmas distribution on Friday.  Donations can be brought to the Clubhouse until 2 pm this afternoon.  Monetary gift will still be accepted to cover the cost of the turkeys and hams that they have purchased for distribution.  Thank you all who have already given so generously.

New Year’s Eve tickets when on sale today.  Tickets are $7.50 per person and will be available the next two Thursdays at Coffee or from Bonnie Fry. No tickets will be sold at the door.  A fund evening is being planned with an American Bandstand DJ featuring music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.  The Dance Committee will set up the hall at 2 pm and when we are finished, we let you in to reserve your tables.  Make you plans now to bring in 2023 safely here in LRV.  Bring your tablecloth, snacks, and beverages of choice to ring in the new year.  When you get your tickets make sure you print your names on the back – we are going to have door prizes!!

Michael Bolton, Sycamore, will have surgery next Tuesday at Winter Haven Hospital.  It is gallbladder surgery.  Wish you well Michael.

No other health concerns this morning.

I am sorry to announce the passing of Marilyn Groendyke, 462 Sycamore, last Saturday.  She had been in hospice care for several months.  Marilyn was 82 years old and a full-time resident at LRV.  She is survived by 2 sons, Richard & Robert, 2 daughters Carol and Linda.  Also 2 grandchildren and a sister.  Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Robert.  The family will receive friends at the Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave, Haines City between 2 and 5 pm on Monday, December 19.

A moment of silence in honor of Marilyn Groendyke.

A little happy news today.  Dave & Irene Bland, Anchor, sent me a text to tell you all about their granddaughter, Chyler Bland.  She was awarded 2022 defensive player of the year for the Cougar’s Varsity Volleyball as a junior at Durant High School in Valrico, FL

Announcements

Michael announced there will be Christmas Caroling in the Park this Sunday at 3 pm.  Meet in front of the Clubhouse; Village Choir will not rehearse again until January 6th at 10 am, all new music.  Come and join us.

Richard Horner:  The collection for the new piano continues – he is going to do it until it is paid for – we are getting closer.  Sunday morning at 8 am Church Service. He will be speaking on Gabriel telling Mary she is going to have a baby.  And then he will tell how Mary answered him.  Services on Christmas Eve will be held with wonderful music.

Steve Taylor, Garden Club:  Steve announced the 5 @ 5 (really 5 @ 4) this Friday evening at the Hammock sponsored by the Garden Club.  The menu will be mild chili, cornbread and a Christmas Cookie.  The Christmas Committee will be selling ice cream also.  He also reported that they have planted 4 new live oak trees in the Hammock Area to replace the ones that will be dying off (we lost 3 this year).  Three were donated by Enhancement and 1 from the Quilt Club.  Thanks to all involved.

Barb Norsen, Social Club:  Barb reported that the 2023 Social Club membership drive was started this morning.  Many stopped and paid their dues.  Sales will continue every Thursday until the end of January.  Make sure you stop and pay your dues.  Barb shared some happy news this am – her granddaughter, Sabrina, was in ROTC for 4 years and when she got out of school, she joined the Army.  She spent 4 months in Kuwait and she just came back from Poland after 9 months there.  She is now stationed in Colorado and she will be coming home for Christmas.

Betty Akerman:  Betty thanked everyone who participated in the Carport Sale last Saturday- Jerry Jurgens for the awesome maps; Jim Biddle & CAP guides for manning the gate; and all the people who held with the food at the Clubhouse.  Thank you all.

Also, thank you to all the helpers for the Ladies Christmas Luncheon yesterday. It was an amazing luncheon.

Betty announced some up coming dates:  January 20 – Scavenger Hunt at the Hammock followed by a meal of loaded baked potatoes and chili; February 10 – will be another Poker Run followed by Pateo people serving their chili cheese dogs; and then on February 22 – Haystack Dinner in the Clubhouse.

Lanny Hegadorn, Audio Visuals:  Lanny asked that if you need lights on the stage, PLEASE DO NOT TURN THEM ON!!!  Our system is on “life support”.  A man from Winter Haven Theater came in yesterday to check out our system.  He brought in some old parts, but he said “I have some old equipment, but this is antique!”  So, we need to replace our light system.  So do not turn them.  Contact, Chuck Enlow or Lanny so we can at least keep it going temporarily until we can get some replacement. Also, we are going to need a new sound board also.  As everyone could hear, we are getting a lot of feedback and the mikes cannot be turned up any higher.  We are looking to get the Clubhouse at least in the 20th century.

Jack Gerros, Entertainment: Jack thanked everyone for coming to the show last Tuesday.  It was awesome.  Those young ladies have voiced like angels.  Now we have our Jan/Feb/Mar Show packages for reserved seating on sale.  See Diana on Thursdays or you can get them at our home at 358 Badger.  Please get them by January 6th; if not picked up they will go on sale to those who want reserved seats or move up.  Our next show, January 17, will be George Casey and Eric Kerns.  George Casey was the #1 vote getter at 2019 Showcase.

Shirley Moore, Red Hatters:  The Red Hatters are going to go the Hotel Jacaranda in Avon Park on December 27.  The cost $17.75 and it will be collected before we go.   There are 31 women already signed up.  She has 16 door prizes.  There is a sign-up sheet on the Bulletin Board. They will leave at 11 am carpooling from the Clubhouse.
