Lake Region Coffee News – December 30, 2021

Michael Jorgensen was the MC today.

Count: 215

Before Coffee this morning Bonnie Jorgensen entertained us on the piano with a wonderful array of music thru the years (100 years)!  This was followed by a beautiful song “You Got a Friend in Me” sung by Jerry and Mary Ann Sammons’s granddaughter who is a music major at Northwestern College in Minnesota.

New Residents, Kim Burch:  Kim introduced Chris & Jenn Sible, from Ohio and are new residents at 435 Anchor.  Jenn is Sherry Spitz’s daughter.

Introduced last week were Fran & Wilt Dick from Michigan and are new residents at 163 Green Mountain.

Visitors:  Visitors today were:  Bonnie Fry introduced her daughter and family from Greeley, CO; Mary Ann Sammons introduced her 4 granddaughters; Marcia Besser introduced her son, Robert; Roger Wilcox introduced his #2 son, Michael, from New York; and Lorraine Alderfer introduced their daughter, Kimberly.

Shari Haines, Serendipity: Today we need to thank Margie Hoye for our donuts and muffins in celebration of her “Special” birthday.    And when someone pays for the pastries, the Social Club furnishes the coffee and tea.

It great to be back at LRV.  Don’t get me wrong! It was fantastic to spend the holidays with our family, but there is nothing better than sleeping in your own bed even if it was only 3 ½ hours.

I am sorry to report the death of Michael Gardner, Prairie Terrace.  Mike passed on Tuesday, December 23 in Michigan City, IN.  Funeral services will be held today in Michigan City.  Mike was 79 years old.  He survived by his wife Marie.  They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on January 5th. Also survived by two sons, Michael and Gordon, and a daughter, Gabrielle.  Mike and Marie have 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Cards and words of condolence can be sent to Marie % Gabrielle Stantz 2682 North Morning Glory Avenue, Rolling Prairie, IN  46371.

A moment of silence in remembrance of Michael K Gardner.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

Marcia Besser, Out of Park Activities:  Marcia introduced a gentleman from Lakeside Ranch.  He has gone with our group to the Daytona 500 in the past.  He has a bus going this year and is inviting anyone here to join them.  The cost is $185 for the motor coach and that includes your ticket.  A signup sheet is available and he needs to know within two weeks.  A phone number is on the sheet to call.

Marcia announced that anyone who has signed up for a trip, she needs the money.  She is posting three new activities – a new date for the Barbara Lee (March 10); Tigers and New York Yankee Baseball Game (March 15) and Tigers and Boston Red Sox’s (March 25). Money needs to be paid when you sign up.

Jinx Rogers:  It is Newsletter Time.  Please pick up a packet for your street and distribute them.  Your help is needed.  They will be in the back following coffee.  Also check the Christmas Card Box for cards before they are destroyed.

Jan Peskie, Chair Yoga:  Chair Yoga will be starting next week on Mondays and Fridays from 11 am – 12 noon.  You will need a yoga mat; weights will be helpful and a strap or a bathrobe belt.  Do not be afraid; it will make you stronger.

Marlin Rowe, Cribbage:  Cribbage is starting on Fridays beginning January 7th at 6:30 pm.  Signup sheet is in the west hallway for those who want to play.  We play two-man teams and rotate and have a great time.

Bill Mulvay, Vets & Friends:  The Director of Polk County Veteran’s Council, Ray Clark and his assistant, Sherry Prichard, will be at our meeting on Wednesday January 5 at 3 pm in the Clubhouse.  Anyone who is veteran or has a family member who is a veteran plan to attend.  They are the persons here in Polk County and central Florida who can help you.

George Worden, Boat Club President:  Boat Club Breakfast tickets are being sold today and next Thursday for the Breakfast on January 8 between 7:30 am and 9 am.  Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door.  Menu will include pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee.  Boat Club memberships for 2022 will not be sold the next two week; we will begin again on January 20.  There is a Boat Club Agenda meeting following Coffee this morning in the Card Room.

Donna Williams, Craft Club:  The Craft Club continues to meet on Tuesday afternoons from 1 – 3 pm in the Card Room.  This group has become almost all loom knitting hatters.  There are a lot of people who have expressed an interest in a craft group but do not want to make hat.  We are also adding another Craft Meeting (non loom knitting group) on Fridays from 1 – 3 pm in the Card Room (Please note this is a different day than the one announced at Coffee on Thursday). One project planned is the “no-sew” blankets and there will be a person to teach us.  The Craft Club was gifted with a new Christmas tree.  So, the new Friday Craft Group will be making ornaments for next year.  Bring ideas.

Diana Gerros, Entertainment Committee:  Diana announced that you need to pick up your packets on or before January 6.  There will be entertainment on Tuesday at Potluck. I will be a gentleman who has been here before, Michael Erickson (quite talented).

Miriam Harcek:  Miriam expressed her appreciation to everyone (most gracious and loving that she has ever met.)  The response to the call for bedding and linens for the people of Mayfield, Ky who suffered unbelievable loss from the tornadoes earlier this month has been unbelievable.  Your generosity has been enormous this Christmas season.  On Friday afternoon they will be loading up all the bedding that you have donated. Lois and Roger Brown will be leaving on Saturday morning.  They have paid for the rental of a cargo van.  All these items will be distributed by the Graves County Relief Committee. Lois and Roger will be footing most the cost, so if you have a couple of extra dollars for gas and lodging on the road, please see me following coffee.  Thanks to all of your for being so generous and the people of Kentucky thank you also.

Jerry Sammon, Board Member:  Jerry announced that the Spectrum Meeting to go over the contracts with everyone is scheduled for Thursday, January 27th after coffee (not the 25th).
