Lake Region Coffee News – December 9, 2021
Michael Jorgensen was the MC today.
Count: 201
The Village Choir under the direction of Michael Jorgensen entertained us this morning was a melody of Christmas Carols. Wonderful!!!
New Residents, Kim Burch: Kim introduced Dawn Houseknecht at 330 Aloha. She is anew full-time resident from New York with her husband Bill who will be parttime. Dawn is the daughter of Mike and Char Link.
Kim reminded us of the Christmas Card mailbox in the front room. Everyone can be an “elf” and help with the distribution of cards. As a convenience you can put cards that you want to send to your friends and neighbors here in the park. Then you can take a stack of cards for your street or another street and deliver them to the clips on the homes.
Visitors: No visitors today
Shari Haines, Serendipity: Today we need to thank Donald & Linda Meyer for our donuts and muffins in celebration of their 45th wedding anniversary. And when someone pays for the pastries, the Social Club furnishes the coffee and tea.
The Annual Carport Sale was held last weekend. I hope you all found some new treasures. We brought a couple of pies and some cookies from Grace Halter, better known as the “Pie Lady”. Grace has been baking pies, cookies, jams and pickles for the last 12 years and she tells me this is her final time. She will be missed especially by the park residents. I also had lunch out on the parking lot on Saturday. The 5 @ 5 guys were selling hot dogs and hamburger.
Then on Tuesday if you did not come to potluck or at least the entertainment after, you missed a real event. Of course, the food was great as usual, but the main event was the entertainment. I have known Miriam Harcek since 2012 our first fall and winter here at LRV. I know she is an amazing quilter, with a real eye for color. I know she is a really good cook, friend, neighbor, and was an excellent wife to George, but I did not know she was a “playwriter” with a real flare for humor. If you missed the performance, you can catch it on “LRV Friends” Facebook page. Well done, Miriam!!
Gary Rushford, Anchor and soon Sunflower, has been a patient in Winter Haven Hospital for the last several days with heart issues.
Marlene Law, Oak Trail, called me last evening to let me know she is HOME! And in my notes “home” is in capital letters followed by an exclamation point. Marlene has been at Astoria Rehab Center in Winter Haven for the last 27 days.
Ambulance was in the park last evening. Ray Thoman, 455 Sycamore, was taken to Winter Haven Hospital. They thought he had a TIA. They are running tests today.
Mary Chamberlain, 172 Keystone, is now at Springlake in Winter Haven after a short stay in the hospital.
Dennis Piper, Orchid, is having open heart surgery this morning.
I am sorry to report that death of Bill Bailey. Bill passed at home early last Friday morning. He was 86 years old and survived by 2 sons and a daughter. He and Norma Smith resided at 580 Sunshine Blvd. Bill was a Navy veteran and you may have noticed that the flags inside LRV have been lower to half-staff in his honor of his service for the last few days. Please keep Norma and Bill’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
A moment of silence followed by TAPS in honor of Bill Bailey

This Sunday Evening Fellowship will be having three special musical programs this year. The Wylers on Wheels will be with us. They are a wonderful group who will entertain us with Christian music.
Richard suggested that a good project would be to raise money to purchase a new piano for the Clubhouse. One that is on par with our wonderful pianist Mrs Jorgensen.
Dottie Minnich, Golf Cart Parade: Dottie hoped that everyone enjoyed the parade on Saturday evening. She announced the winners: Most Original – Dale & Shari Wescott; Best Show of Christmas Spirit – Betty Hicks; and Most Eclectic – Ken Olin & Ralph Dick
Dottie also had a suggestion for the perfect Christmas gift – a Lake Region Village Hat. She has them in blue and red on sale for $9.98 or the gray floppy hat for $19.98. If interested, contact Dottie. She will deliver.
Jim Biddle: On Mondays and Thursdays in the Quilt/Poker Room Texas Holdem is played at 6 pm. It is $10 to play. If you are new come on down and see what it is all about.
Saturday while Jim was working the front gate during the Carport Sale there were 4 of our residents who decided to drive around while I was helping a visitor. Jim does not want this “me, me, me” to creep into our Park. Jim encourages us all to get out and meet your neighbor, get involved, wave at everyone, - enjoy your retirement.
Jan Peskie, Chair Yoga: Jan reminded us that Chair Yoga will be starting January 3. They will meet on Mondays and Fridays, 11 am – noon in the Clubhouse. To attend you will need a mat, some weights (1# to 4#). A couple of water bottles will serve at #1 weights. No need to register – just show up.
George Worden, Boat Club: George announced the Boat Club Breakfast this Saturday morning 7:30-9:00 am. Advance tickets are $5 and $6 at the door. Memberships are $5 per person. “You do not have to have a boat to belong to the Boat Club.”
Betty Akerman, Social Club President: Betty reminded us that the Social Club Meeting will be held today immediately after Coffee. Please come.
Betty also reminded us about the Christmas Card Mailbox in the front hall. Leave your card and help by distributing cards on your street. No postage is needed.
We are in need of people to volunteer to help with the sound system. Bob Hoyle is retiring at of January 1. If you have expertise with sound systems, please considering volunteering to help. We would like to get a committee together so that it does not fall on the same person all the time.
The Walmart in our Hammock area looks gorgeous. A special “thanks” to Char Pickereign, Jinx Rogers and Denny Maguire for cleaning up the area after a load of stuff was dropped off after the Carport Sale. Do not bring clothing to the Walmart anymore.
Golf Carts should not be parked in the front of the Clubhouse. Parking lots on the west and east side are for golf carts and the front is for cars ONLY.
Betty needs an Emcee for Coffee in January. Please volunteer.
Jamie Moore, Blue Grass, has taken on the job as the “Chair and Table Person”. It is not just Jamie’s responsibility. All the Clubs and Groups who have activities here in this room when chairs and tables need to be moved need to contact Jamie. He will have a crew to help, but members of your group or club should also be available to help. You can contact Jamie at: 315-719-8172.

We encourage you to take an ornament off the tree and bring the food item listed on the ornament back down and put it in our white baskets. The food donated will be taken next Wednesday to House Blest in Haines City for distribution to our needy families in Haines City. This food pantry is sponsored by the Haines City Ministerial Association. The Quilt Club thanks you for your participation.

Bobbie Haddix, Christmas Dinner: Christmas Dinner will be held here in the Clubhouse at 1 pm. Ticket at $7.50. The menu will be ham and cheesy potatoes and everyone will be a side dish.
Steve Mark, Board of Director: We are a “Volunteer Park” and we love our volunteers. There are many clubs and organization that will welcome you. The Boat Club is a very good organization and they will be selling membership. They hold different events during the year and you don’t need to own a boat to belong. He thanked all the volunteers as well as the Board Members who are also volunteers. Steve announced that the election will be coming up soon and there will be 6 directors needed.
