First of all, doesn’t the park look wonderful all decked out for Christmas. It is awesome – from the front gate all the way back. The Clubhouse is magnificent – thanks to all the clubs for their trees and, of course, this amazing one to my right. And during the day when the lights are not on, those flower beds with poinsettias are beautiful.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and you all got your fill of turkey. They menu was not the main event in Bruce’s and my Thanksgiving. We got to meet this little bundle of joy, Peyton Matthew Scharer, our first great grandchild. And, of course, it was wonderful to see the rest of our family and spend time with them.
I heard from Sherry Spitz, formerly on Terrace now on Anchor. She will not be down this winter. She is battling stage four breast cancer. She will have 30 weeks of chemo before surgery and then follow up with more chemo and radiation. Please keep Sherry in your thoughts and prayers. I don’t have an address for her today, but I will get one before I send out my email. Cards can be sent to Sherry at 10974 Rock Road, Lake, MI 48632
I received a call that Bill Fors, formerly on Buckeye, passed on November 19, in after a month-long battle with COVID-19. Bill was 82 years old. He and his wife wintered here in LRV many years and lived in Loon Pond, NH. He is survived by his wife, Linda Brown, two daughters, Lynn and Rebecca, a son, Chris, and a step-son, Donald. And also, by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Card can be sent to Linda at P O Box 534, Hillsboro, NH 03244.

Out of Park Activities: I have been asked to announce the possibilities of a trip to the Strawberry Festival in Plant City on Tuesday March 8th. The trip would include the bus transportation, a ticket for a serving of the famous Strawberry Shortcake, as well as reserved seats for the matinee show “Ricky Nelson Remembered”. This performance will showcase Ricky’s twin sons Matthew and Gunnar singing their dad’s hits as well as a few of their own. The cost will be around $60. A signup sheet is on the board. Cindy needs to know about how many would be interested as tickets go on sale December 9.
All the other trips are on the board also.

George called our attention to the Hammock. It really looks great. The grass is mowed, the leaves are picked up. Thank you very much.
There will be a Boat Club Meeting today immediately after Coffee this morning in the Card Room.
Barb Swearingen, Craft Club: The Craft Club is in charge of the Festival of the Trees. Trees are decorated by all Clubs here in the Clubhouse. On Sunday, December 12, you are all invited to come and vote on the trees. There will be a first, second and third place winners. This is a time to come and visit with friends, vote on the trees and enjoy some cookies and punch and get in the Christmas spirit. Door prizes will be awarded every 15 minutes.
Patsy Zumwalt, 5 @ 5: Patsy is the mother and boss of all the 5 @ 5 guys. Those new to the park need to become a 5 @ 5 guy. They are a fun group.
This Saturday the 5 @ 5 guys will be serving hot chocolate, coffee, donuts, water, soda, chips, hot dogs, hamburgers and nachos and cheese during the Carport Sale out front of the Clubhouse starting at 8:00 am
Also, Patsy introduced Dave & Irene Bland from the Christmas Committee. They will be selling their ice cream at all the 5 @ 5 events to make money to decorate our park.
Bill Bell: “This is a wonderful place to live” was what Bill shared with us. On November 8 his wife, June, passed after suffering for several years of dementia. Bill misses her terribly. Two days later Bill had a stroke cause by his blood sugar going through the roof and spent three days in Winter Haven Hospital. Once his blood sugar was back to normal the symptoms disappeared and he felt very lucky. While in the hospital his three children made a plan. They started cleaning out his stuff and cleaning the house. They even made a trip to dump in Winter Haven. His children are going to take him to Colorado for Christmas. They have picked out the perfect place for him in Colorado. So, he is thinking this is not just a trip to Colorado for Christmas, but possibly something more permanent. Therefore, this may be the last time Bill gets to talk to us. After his wife’s death he was overwhelmed with sympathy card; you really made is easier for him. Bill and his wife really enjoyed their 20 years here at Lake Region Village. Bill served on the Board for 4 years, was on the sound committee and played the piano. A week and a half ago my wife’s sister, Diane Bechard who live here on Wolverine fell and broke her arm in three places and hit her head. She laid there for three days before someone found her. She is now in the same rehab facility that my wife was in. Bill really enjoyed the Thanksgiving dinner especially the pie with the cherries. He wore a dark blue wool hoodie with the word “NASA” on the back. He left it on the back of his chair and when he realized he had left it, he came back and it was gone. Bill’s wife gave him the hoodie and would really like to have it back. If anyone knows what happened to the hoodies, Bill would really like to have it back. “God bless all of you!”
Irene & David Bland, Christmas Committee: Irene introduced her committee – Smithy & Patti Smith, Jerry & Mary Ann Sammon, Chuck & Marianne Ortenzio, Marv & Debbie Pease and Cleave & Pat. Also, everyone who helped with the decorations. A round of applause to show our appreciation.
Glenn Edgin: Glenn asked for a show of hand for those who are from Pennsylvania. After the meeting Glenn and his wife would like to meet with all those from Pennsylvania.
Jerry Sammon, Board Member: A little downer this morning. Jerry very strongly warned us if we do not start stopping at stop signs and obey the speed limits the speed bumps will come back. He has pictured texted to him of a car who went through three stop signs and finally stopped at the stop sign at Keystone only to talk to somebody; people are turning in front of people; reports of people just missing people. If you don’t want them back, you are going to have to observe the law (both golf carts and cars). If you see something, please let Jerry know.
Jerry reminded us that on Sunshine that the golf carts are on the right and cars on the left. It is a safety thing.
Miriam Harcek, Quilt Club: The Quilt Club’s Christmas Tree in the front hall is a “Giving Tree”. The ornament each have a nonperishable food on the back. We want you to take an ornament and bring back the nonperishable food and place it in the white baskets around the tree. On December 15 we will take the donations to House Blest in Haines City (a food pantry sponsored by the Haines City ministerial association). Two years ago, we did this also and we delivered three SUV’s full of food. We are also accepting monetary donations to purchase turkeys and hams. Please this Christmas season that we are finally open up, let us help the local people here in Haines City have a bountiful Christmas dinner.
Al Granato, Corn Hole: Corn Hole fund raiser to maintain the Corn Hole facility is complete and they are ready to announce the winners. This money is used only to maintain the Corn Hole facility and it does not go into prizes money for their tournament. Al thanked all who purchased a chance for one of the $50 bills.
Winners were Marilyn Richardson, 551 Peacock; Chuck Enlow, 219 Bay Terrace; Carol Cotugno, 269 Pelican; Jerry Hesseling, 464 Sycamore; and Debi Olin. Al encouraged everyone to come up and play corn hole and enjoy the facility.
Steve Mark, Board Member: Reminded us that there is a church service here lead by Richard Horner in the Clubhouse every Sunday morning.
Also, he reminded everyone that when you are coming and going in and out of the gate to please do not stop and start the gate when it is closing. This is very hard on the gate and it is very expensive to repair. Just let the gate close and then activate it with your card or clicker when it is completely closed. Take your time, do not rush – it will save the Park money.
A shout out of “Thanks” goes to

Thought for the week:
You can tell a lot about a person
by the way they handle three things:
a rainy day, lost luggage
and tangled Christmas tree lights.
