Lake Region Coffee News – April 29, 2021
Coffee Klatch has officially started every Thursday morning at 8:30 am and I will again be putting out the weekly next via email. Coffee Klatch will not longer be available via "Facebook Live". I hope you have all enjoyed our occasional Coffee's during this "Covid" time, but we are now trying to get back to our regular Coffee Klatch.
Char Link was the MC today.
Ms. Vega was with us this week from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department to explain the “Vial of Life”. This program is in conjunction with Publix to make available to emergency personnel who may come to your home with your personal medication information. She was available at the end of Coffee to hand out further information.
Attendance: 99
New Residents: Kim Birch read a list of new residents who have recently moved to LRV. Present today to be introduced were Ruth and Joe from Vermont at 408 Golden Lane; Terry and Rose Hildebrand from Clayton, IN at 99 Mustang.
Visitors: Cris Nichols, Beaver, introduced Denny and Barbara Albert from Maine (recently at 4 Lakes). They have purchased the Nichols’ home at 318 Beaver
Shari Haines, Serendipity: It’s almost the first of May. How time flies when we are having fun. Hopefully May will be a new start for 2021. The clubhouse is open without masks, most of us have been vaccinated, the President says masks are no longer needed when outside, and the weather is just about perfect. I don’t know why the snowbirds don’t stay another month and enjoy this wonderful, almost perfect May weather.
Today we can thank Nick and Cris Nichols for our donuts and muffins. They are in memory of Cris’s mother, Willa Stauffer. And, of course, when someone buys furnishes the donuts and muffins, the Social Club furnishes the coffee and tea.
The ambulance was in the park last week and took Bill Turner, Sycamore, to the hospital. He has been transferred to Spring Lake in Winter Haven for rehab.
Bob Wanemacher, Aloha, fell in his home in Indiana and fractured is hip. He has been in the hospital, but with his fragile state, age and other health issues, he is not a candidate for any surgery. He would not survive an operation. He has been moved to a facility in Plymouth, IN under hospice care. The family is asking for prayers for Bob’s comfort and a peaceful transition. Keep Bob, his wife, Peggy, and his twin brother, Rollin, who also has a home here in LRV on Golden.
As we all know, Mercedes Lehto formerly on Sycamore, has returned to Wisconsin to be closer to her family. The family has started a “CaringBridge” page to keep us all up on Mercedes. Sadly, they report that her health in declining faster than they had hoped. On yesterday entry they reported that her daughter, Patti, has been to stay with her and look out for her. They are waiting for Hospice orders to be put in and pain meds to be adjusted. Her right knee is giving her trouble and making it harder for her to get around her apartment. If you would like to keep up on Mercedes, all you have to do is google “caringbridge” all one word and sign in on Mercedes’ page. Please keep Mercedes and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
The following card was received from Mercedes: “Dear Lake Region Friends, I am writing to thank you all for the beautiful cards, gifts and everyone’s friendship. This has been very had for me to leave beautiful Lake Region. Such a wonderful place to live. I knew this was going to have to happen, but sure wasn’t looking forward to it. I am in my apartment now and it will be livable someday. I think I am fighting depression. All I want to do is sleep and cry. I would like to ask you all to pray for me. I don’t even want to talk to people on the phone. I am so happy Roger and Sunny bought my house because it will be in good hands. Well, just say a prayer to help me get through this. It sure is a wonderful park. Love, Mercedes Lehto, 3350 East Ramsey Avenue, #102, Cudahy, WI 53110”

Announcements
Charlie Sponcil, BOD President: Charlie reported that the new fire alarm system has been installed and the installers and the fire department will be testing the system today. Do not panic if you see the fire department here today unless “you see smoke”.
Someone has brought some large furniture like dressers, chairs, sofas to the “mall”. We really do not need these kinds of donations. Small items are welcome.
Charlie also reminded us that if you are in the clubhouse during the evening for an event, please make sure all the doors are locked.
Barb Norsen, Newsletter: May Newsletters are available today. Please help by distributing them on your street. She will be at the table in the front hall. Also, the first Potluck will be held on Monday, May 31, Memorial Day. We will resume Potluck on the first Tuesday of the month in July. Hope to see you there.
Betty Akerman, Social Club President: Betty reminds us that we all need to remember to wear your name tag. Coffee will continue every week. If you would like to volunteer to purchase the donuts in celebration of your birthday, anniversary or any reason, just see Judi or Alice at the table in the front hall.
Betty is excited to tell you about the community garden. It has been approved and in the works. We will be growing and distributing vegetable grown here at LRV. Volunteer will be needed in the future, but right now they are in need of funding; no amount is too small. The money will be used to purchase soil, etc. A fund raiser is being planned to raise money for this project. It will be a “Carry Out Sunday Dinner”. They will be selling these dinners between 2pm-3pm on Sunday afternoon. The first one will be May 16 and Betty will have ticket available so that they know approximately how many dinners to plan on. More information will be available at Coffee next week. There will be some walk-in meals available.
Betty also reported for Kathy Flinn. Kathy has been working very had giving the “medical” shed and the “mall” shed a fresh new look. We are all aware some of the materials that were purchased for this project has gone missing. In order to replace these supplies, she is in need to donation to purchase them. The estimated cost is about $350. Please consider making a donation to this project.
